Für den dritten Teil unserer Serie „Plants Are Friends“ waren wir bei Modedesigner Hien Le in Kreuzberg zu Besuch... 

For the third part of our series "Plants Are Friends" we visited fashion designer Hien Le in Kreuzberg...

Hien Le ist schon seit 2010 mit seinem gleichnamigen eigenen Label in der Mode aktiv. Daher kennt ihn in Berlin fast jeder. Bereits 2011, mit seiner erst dritten Kollektion, gewann der Modedesigner den 3. Preis des renommierten “start your own fashion business“ Wettbewerbs. Und natürlich zeigt er seine Entwürfe regelmäßig auf der Berliner Fashion Week. Zusätzlich ist Hien Le Teil des “Berliner Salons”, eine von der deutschen VOGUE protegierte Initiative zur Förderung von ausgewählten, jungen Talenten. Gerade ist er im Zuge dessen mit seinen Kreationen im berühmten KaDeWe zu sehen.

Wir lieben Hien Le nicht nur, weil er ein sehr sehr freundlicher und sympathischer Zeitgenosse ist, sondern auch weil er konstant wunderschöne Kleidung für Männer und Frauen entwirft, die sich durch moderne, diskrete Schnitte und die subtile und treffsichere Verwendung von Details auszeichnen. Hinzu kommt natürlich noch, dass alle seine Produkte komplett in Deutschland gefertigt werden.

Hien hat uns in seine Wohnung gelassen und ein paar botanische Fragen beantwortet.

Hien Le has been in the fashion business since 2010 with his own label Hien Le. Therefore almost everybody in Berlin knows him. Already in 2011, with his third collection, the fashion designer won the 3rd prize of the renowned "start your own fashion business" contest. And of course he regularly shows his designs at the Berlin Fashion Week. In addition, Hien Le is part of the "Berliner Salon", an initiative sponsored by the German VOGUE to promote selected young talents. Currently he can be seen with his creations in the famous KaDeWe.

We love Hien Le not only because he is a very very kind and sympathetic person, but also because he constantly designs beautiful clothes for men and women, which are characterized by modern, subtle cuts and the sensitive and accurate use of details. In addition, of course, all of his products are made entirely in Germany.

Hien let us into his apartment and answered a few botanical questions.

Wie viele Pflanzen hast du?

Momentan sind es 7 Zimmerpflanzen, es sollen aber noch mehr werden. Ich habe Pflanzen sehr gerne um mich. Sowohl in meinem Studio beim Arbeiten als auch in meiner Privatwohnung.

Was war die erste Pflanze, die du besessen hast, und wann war das?

Das war eine Kokospalme, die ich vor ca. 10 Jahren gekauft habe. Die Kokospalme wollte ich immer haben, weil ich sie so schön fand und mich außerdem alle Arten von Palmen an meine Heimat Laos erinnern. Insgesamt hatte ich 5 davon! Leider haben die Palmen es nie lange bei mir ausgehalten.

Was ist deine Lieblingspflanze, und warum? Gibt es eine Pflanze die du gar nicht magst?

Meine Lieblingspflanze ist die Monstera, weil sie so pflegeleicht ist und so schnell wächst. Es gibt keine Pflanze die ich gar nicht mag. Nur Pflanzen die ich weniger schön finde. 

How many plants do you have?

At the moment there are 7 houseplants, but there will be more. I like having plants around me. Both in my studio at work and in my private home.

What was the first plant you owned and when was that?

It was a coconut palm that I bought about 10 years ago. I always wanted to have the coconut palm because I thought it was so beautiful and also because all kinds of palms remind me of my home country Laos. In total I had 5 of them! Unfortunately the palms never lasted long with me.

What is your favorite plant, and why? Is there a plant that you don't like at all?

My favorite plant is the Monstera, because it is so easy to care for and grows so fast. There is no plant that I don't like at all. Only plants that I find less beautiful.

Hast du dich schon mal von der Botanik für eine Kollektion/oder ein bestimmtes Design inspirieren lassen?

Ich war immer mal kurz davor, habe es aber dann nie gemacht. Dafür gehe ich aber immer wieder gerne in den Botanischen Garten in Berlin, um meinen Kopf frei zu bekommen und die Natur zu genießen.

Hast du einen/eine Lieblingsdesigner/in? Wenn er/sie eine Pflanze wäre, dann welche?

Mein Lieblingsdesigner ist Dries van Noten. Ich denke er wäre ein Gummibaum in mehren Farben.

Have you ever been inspired by the botany for a collection/or a certain design?

I was always close to it, but then I never did it. But I always like to go to the Botanical Garden in Berlin to clear my head and enjoy nature.

Do you have a favorite designer? If he/she were a plant, then which one?

My favorite designer is Dries van Noten. I think he would be a rubber tree in several colors.

Welche sind deine liebsten “botanischen” Blogs/Instagram-Profile?

Haarkon mag ich sehr gerne. Und Herz und Blut. Da geht es zwar nicht nur um Pflanzen, aber der Blog ist trotzdem gut.

Welches Pflanzenaccessoire würdest du dir wünschen/würdest du erfinden?

Ui, da bin ich leider etwas unkreativ... aber ich glaube etwas Schönes was man mit Wasser füllen kann und in das man die Pflanzen setzt. Und die Pflanze nimmt sich dann, soviel und wann und wie sie es braucht…es gibt ja auch kaum schöne Gießkannen und mit dieser Erfindung könnte man im Haushalt darauf verzichten.

What are your favorite "botanical" blogs/Instagram profiles?

I like Haarkon very much. And Herz und Blut. It's not only about plants, but the blog is nevertheless good.

Which plant accessory would you like/would you invent?

Wow, I'm a bit uncreative... but I think something nice that you can fill with water and put the plants in it. And the plant then takes as much as it needs, when and how much it needs... there are hardly any nice watering cans and with this invention you could do without it in your household.
